The LSU Tigers defeated Oregon State 6-1 in the bracket 1 finals of the college world series in Omaha, Nebraska Saturday to advance to the CWS finals. LSU will play the winner of Saturday nights bracket 2 final which will be either TCU or Florida.
LSU downed the Beavers 3-1 Friday in an elimination game forcing Saturday’s winner take final game.
Oregon State’s 2 losses to LSU in the past two days was the first time the Beavers lost two games in a row since May 2016.
LSU advances to the CWS final and they go for their 7th national championship
The Tigers advanced to the finals by way of a terrific starting performance from sophomore right-hander Caleb Gilbert. Gilbert pitched 7 and 1/3 innings allowing only 1 run and two hits.
Tigers skipper Paul Mainieri has won one of the LSU national championships and he said that the Tigers are excited about playing for the championship. He also said that his starting pitcher Saturday (Gilbert) was fantastic.
“Unbelievable, he (Gilbert) had a great performance,” Mainieri said.
Tigers switch hitting catcher Michael Papierski smashed tow home runs for the Bayou Bengals who will be looking for their 7th national championship when the finals begin Monday.
